We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Robert "Bob" Thompson, a legendary stunt pilot who passed away on May 8, 2023, at the age of 82. Bob was a fearless and skilled pilot who pushed the limits of aviation and inspired countless people with his breathtaking aerial stunts.
Bob was born on September 12, 1940, in Wichita, Kansas, where he developed a passion for flying at a young age. He began his career as a pilot in the military, where he honed his skills and developed a deep love for aviation. After leaving the military, Bob became a stunt pilot, performing death-defying maneuvers at air shows and other events across the country. He was known for his daring aerial acrobatics, including loops, spins, and barrel rolls, which thrilled audiences and earned him widespread admiration and respect.
Bob's contributions to aviation and the stunt-flying community were significant, and his legacy will live on through the countless people he inspired. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and colleagues in the aviation community.
A memorial service will be held on May 13, 2023, at the airfield where Bob performed his most memorable stunts, to honor his life and his achievements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to an organization that supports the education and training of young pilots, to continue Bob's legacy of inspiring the next generation of aviation enthusiasts.
