Have you driven by the huge mounds of dirt and rocks off Lakeview drive lately and wondered what is going on?! Well, you’ll be thrilled to know that our community is receiving a new community center! Mayor Jason Ray hopes with the addition to the community center coming to the area will decrease the amount of youth criminal activity, which has been slowly increasing the last five years.
This amazing addition to our community wouldn’t be happening if it weren’t thanks to Dwayne “Lil’ D” Green, grammy award winning hip hop recording artist! Dwayne just so happens to be born and raised just five minutes south from the new community center location. The purpose behind the community center truly hits home more to him than we may know, as his younger brother has fallen victim to the wrong crowds. Green states, “If this community had a center where our youth and even adults can come together and participate in positive group activities, I believe we can achieve a better environment for future generations.”
Throughout Dwayne’s music career, he has poured passion into every album he has released. He has tried to bring a sort of positive and encouraging aspect to his music since most artist in his genre lead a much different direction with their messages. “I have always wanted to inspire, weather that be through my art or through my actions”, Green says. “With this community center, I plan to host a music workshop to inspire others to express themselves through the art of music,” Green shares.
According to the site builder, the center is expected to be opened by the beginning of this summer and Dwayne is already making plans for a music workshop shortly after the opening!
